GBWhatsApp End-to-End Encrypted Backup

GBWhatsApp is built on a simple idea: what you share with friends and family should only be visible to you and the other person. We added end-to-end encryption as the default 5 years ago and today protects over 100 billion messages per day for over 2 billion users.

GBWhatsApp End-to-End Encrypted Backup

While the end-to-end encrypted messages you send and receive are kept on your device, many people still want to back up their chats in case their phone is lost. Starting today, we’ll add an optional extra layer of security to backups stored in Google Drive or iCloud with end-to-end encryption. No other major global communications service provides this level of security for users’ messages, media, voice messages, video calls and chat backups.

Now you can secure end-to-end encrypted backups with a password you set yourself or a 64-bit encryption key that only you know. Neither GBWhatsApp nor the backup service provider can read your backups nor obtain the keys needed to unlock them.

Our user base already exceeds 2 billion people, and we’re excited to give them more options for protecting their privacy. We will gradually roll out this feature to users who have the latest version of GBWhatsApp installed. You can learn more about securing chat backups on iOS and Android with end-to-end encryption here, and how we built it here.
